Smoothie Boosters: 5 Ingredients to Make Healthier Smoothies!

Smoothies have become very popular as they’re easy to make and ready in a short time. Prepared with the right ingredients, smoothies are a great option for breakfast meals, packed with energy and nutrients. Here are some of our favorite ingredients to make healthier smoothies!

Berries

Berries are a great fruit base for a smoothie. They’re low in sugar, has vitamin C, antioxidants and are great source of fiber to give your smoothie that extra boost of nutrients!

But there should always be a good balance of ingredients. Don’t add too many fruits in your smoothie. In general, you should not put more than 1 cup of fruits in your smoothie per serving. If you’re using mixed fruits, check the amount of your fruit base, especially if the fruits you chose are high in sugar.
Fun fact: Strawberries are the most popular fruit eaten all over the world, but blueberries and goji berries are called the healthiest berries!

Kale & Spinach
Not everyone add leafy greens, like kale and spinach, in their smoothies, but they’re a great way in incorporating veggies in your diet!  They’re full of vitamins, minerals and fiber but low in calories.

Kale is a great source of vitamin K and C, calcium, potassium and rich in antioxidants and fiber. In combination with other ingredients, a handful of kale or spinach will not be detectable in taste and gives your smoothie a great nutritional boost.

Oats
Oats are an energy booster! They’re full of minerals, vitamins, fiber and protein. They also known to lower cholesterol, improve digestion and keep blood sugar balanced. Another benefit to adding them to your smoothie - they improve the texture and make them creamier!

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is an awesome source of protein and fiber. It’s simply delicious and a great energy booster!

Add healthy, plant-based fats to your smoothies like nuts, nut butters or seeds, avocado and coconut oil. Just remember that these ingredients are also high in calories - but 1 tablespoon of nut butter will be enough for that energy boost to start your day!
Superfood Powders

Adding a little bit of powdered foods into your smoothie is also a great way to add some extra nutrients and vitamins. You can choose between fruits, veggies or algae in powdered versions.

One of the most popular super powders is spirulina - green or blue, it’s known to be a good source of antioxidants! You can also add fruit powders, like pink pitaya or goji berry or powders made from veggies, like beetroot or black carrot. Adding even 1/2 tsp of these powders into the smoothie will boost it with extra nutrients, but also will improve the smoothie color!

Smoothies may become a healthy breakfast choice for you, just remember to think about the right amounts of ingredients. Balance is a key.
